Why Are My Lash Extensions Falling Out?!

You just spent ALL that money on your beautiful new lash extensions… Why are they falling out?!?!

Your lashes go through a growth cycle in about 60 days. There are 3 phases to the cycle, the active growth phase where it continuously grows, the transitional phase where the lash stops the growth process, and last is the resting phase where the lash will begin to fall out and start growing a new one in its place restarting the cycle.

It’s completely normal to lose between 1-5 lashes a day so don’t freak out if you have any fall out.

When you receive your full set of lashes you will want to avoid water for the first 24-48 hours.

The adhesive used to attach the false lash to a natural last will need at least 24 hours to set.

Getting your lashes wet too soon can cause your lash extensions to fall out. The same applies for your lash fills.

A great thing about lash extensions is that you don’t need to wear mascara, although some clients still choose to do so.

Mascara can break the bonds in the lash glue causing your lash extensions to fall out.

Stay FAR away from water-proof mascara.

Wearing makeup with lash extensions isn’t always the issue, but rather how you remove them and if it is oil or water based makeup. If you have lash extensions you will want to avoid all oil based products in both makeup and cleansers.

There is an effective way to cleanse your lashes to keep the most retention on your extensions. You will want to clean them daily and brush them 2-5 times per day.

First, you will want to start by cleansing your eyelids with a non-oil based cleanser. Move your fingers in circular motions avoiding your lash line then rinse. Pat your eyelashes dry with a lint free cloth.

Once your lashes are dry apply your lash cleanser to a clean brush and brush at the top of your lash line to the tip of your lashes in a downward motion.

Continue this until you feel like you have removed all excess makeup and debris from your lashes then rinse. If you feel it’s necessary you may repeat this last step.

Before moving on be sure to pat your lashes dry. For your final step you will want to take your spoolie (aka: an empty mascara wand) and brush through your clean lashes.

If you are an eye rubber, lash extensions unfortunately aren’t for you. Rather, try a lash lift and tint. Rubbing your lashes can cause the bond to loosen from your natural lash and false lash, causing them to fall out.

The way you sleep can also affect your lash extensions. The position you sleep in can cause your extensions to fall out.

For me personally, I am a side sleeper so I notice my extensions fall out faster on my left side than my right. If you are a stomach sleeper this could smash your lashes causing them to bend and break the bondage.

Lash extensions are inevitable to fall out, but there are ways you can prevent it.
