What is an oil cleanser?

An oil cleanser is an oil that is used as the first step in your skincare routine. At the Beach House we recommend that our clients do a double cleanse in the morning and evening or just once a day. This means that you will cleanse your skin twice with two different cleansers of your choice. Many of our clients will start with our oil cleanser then follow with another one of our cleansers, preferably one that is water based and lightweight opposed to the oil cleanser.

Oil cleansers are popular because they melt your makeup off after a long day as well as deeply nourish your skin. They are especially great for those with dry skin. Our oil cleanser contains grapeseed oil, sunflower oil, and pumpkin oil. Other oil options for oil cleansing are jojoba oil, almond oil, rosehip oil, argan oil, and there’s a few others. You want to make sure the oils you use for oil cleansing are 100% pure, cold pressed oils. You don’t want oils that are refined. This means they have probably been processed with heat before being bottled which means nutrients have been stripped from them. Cold pressed is what you want instead because this means that during processing they went through a cooling process that purified them and kept the nutritional value and vitamins present in the final product.

Now let’s talk about how to use them. Like I said before you can use your oil cleanser either morning or night or both. It will be your very first step in your skincare routine. You will pump a quarter sized amount of oil into the palm of your hand then rub your hands together to get the oil onto both hands. Massage the oil into your skin in circular motions, melting away your makeup, sweat, and dead skin cells from your face. After about one minute of massaging your face with the oil, remove it with some warm water or a warm, wet washcloth. Afterwards your skin will feel clean but not stripped, actually soft and moisturized. You will want to follow with another cleanser afterwards otherwise the oil can clog your pores and cause acne. We suggest a lightweight water based cleanser like our Aloe Wash or Glycolic Cleanser. These will be light on the skin after the heavy oil cleanser and will remove all remnants of the oil. Your skin will feel soft, supple, plump, and clean after this double cleanse that is so nourishing and great for the skin. We also include these steps in our facials here at the Beach House Spa.
