Which is better, Microdermabrasion or Chemical Peels?
Trying to figure out which is better, a microdermabrasion or chemical peel, for your skin? Both are amazing for helping with signs of aging and helping with pigmentation and acne. Chemical peels and microdermabrasion are both ways of exfoliating the skin, chemical peels are chemical exfoliants and microdermabrasion is a manual exfoliation method. While they are both a form of exfoliation they do different things. Chemical peels sink deep into the skin on a molecular level, chemical peels do have a longer downtime because of their strength. You may experience a tight feeling to the skin and flaking of the skin after your chemical peel and both are completely normal. With a chemical peel your skin is more susceptible to damage from the sun. You want to make sure for several days after your peel to wear spf and reapply frequently and avoid the sun as much as possible.
Microdermabrasion is a form of manual exfoliation that uses tiny crystals to exfoliate the top layer of dead skin. This helps with skin texture and better penetration of skincare products. This treatment has much less downtime from a chemical peel, the skin may be pink for a couple hours after the treatment but will subside. With any form of exfoliation you need to be careful with sun exposure so wear your spf daily!
Most people start with Chemical peels and slowly work their way up to doing Microdermabrasion along with a chemical peel at the same time. This makes the chemical peel experience much stronger so its not recommended for your first time until your Esthetician confirms your skin is ready for both together. Both chemical peels and microdermabrasion are excellent ways of exfoliation and are even better paired together.
